Editing Files with Secure Accelerator

The Secure Accelerator lets you edit Secrata files directly in their native applications — for example, opening a .docx  file in Microsoft Word or a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel — while keeping your data secure.

The editing workflow:

  1. Select a file to edit and choose Edit.
  2. The file automatically opens in its native editing application.
  3. Make your changes to the file.
  4. Save and exit the editing application.
  5. The Secure Accelerator asks you to confirm that your edits are complete.
  6. Your local copy is destroyed, and the changes are re-encrypted and uploaded to Secrata as a new file version.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Right-click the file you want to edit in your workspace.
  2. Select Edit (opens in the file's default application) or Edit With… (lets you choose a specific application).
  3. Make your changes in the native editor, then save and close the file.
  4. When prompted by the Secure Accelerator with "Are you finished editing file '[filename]'?", click Yes to confirm.
  5. The Secure Accelerator will re-encrypt your file and upload it back to Secrata as a new version. Your local copy is then deleted for security.

Important: Make sure you've saved and closed the file in its native application before clicking Yes in the confirmation prompt. If you're not ready yet, click Not Yet — see the Troubleshooting section below for how to finish later.
