Locking and Unlocking Files
File locking helps prevent accidental deletions, overwrites, or edits when collaborating with others.
Locking a file
- Right-click the file (or files) you want to lock.
- Select Lock from the context menu. A lock icon will appear next to the file to show it's locked.
Unlocking a file
- Right-click the file and select Unlock.
Understanding lock icons
| Icon meaning | Description |
|---|---|
| Filled lock (you) | The file is locked and you are the lock owner |
| Filled lock (other) | The file is locked by another user |
| Open lock | The file is unlocked (visible only on mobile clients) |
Requesting an unlock
If a file is locked by someone else, you can't unlock it yourself. Instead, right-click the file and select Request Unlock. This sends a workspace message asking the lock owner to unlock the file.
